Lindsey Vonn is Queen of the Downhill
This weekend Lindsey Vonn won the World Cup Downhill title. She is still in the hunt for the overall points title. The 2010 Winter Olympics should be interesting as our young skiers are really hitting their stride.

Can we turn Texas Blue? - YES WE CAN!
Mr. Luckybear and I attended Barack Obama’s speech here in Dallas on Wednesday. It was an amazing experience. Although Dallas County itself is considered Democratic, the area is very Republican. So when I walked up to get a place in line I nearly cried from joy - the line was wrapped around the arena, down the road quite a ways and into a parking garage. I arrived about an hour before the doors were scheduled to open and already there had to of been at least 10,000 people waiting to get in. Everyone was fired up and excited to hear Senator Obama. It was so exciting to see so many proud Democrats turning out to hear a candidate speak.
We got in at around noon after some of the opening speakers had spoken, but prior to the main event. Former Mayor Ron Kirk spoke briefly and to the joy of the crowd Emmitt Smith also spoke warmly of Senator Obama. I wonder if Emmitt will some day run for office. He too is an eloquent speaker. The man of the hour came out to speak despite being under the weather with the flu. The crowd roared with approval as Obama launched into his rational for running for office now. He seemed to speak from the heart. He not only gave us ideas and ideals, but also his plans for solutions. I think the biggest impression I got from his speech is that it is imperative to inspire the American people into believing in their elected officials again and that their support is needed to help right the mess that will be left behind when the Bush Administration leaves office. This is why I support him. He’s not saying “Trust me, I can do it” as most politicians do. Instead he’s saying that he trusts and believes in the American people and together we can do great things. That’s truly inspiring.

Home Again!
I've made it back from a 4 day trip to Las Vegas to celebrate a friend's 40th birthday. We had a grand time catching up and visiting the sights of Sin City. One of the highlights was a trip to the Hoover Dam. (ok we are both geeks) It is an amazing piece of engineering. We also took it as a challenge to find good eats at good prices. It can be done - even without a car - by asking the locals. Our favorite was the downstairs restaurant at Binions that featured a delicious prime rib dinner for $8.95.
This weekend will be a very quilty weekend. My Dear Jane group meets on Saturday. I am looking forward to pulling it out and making some more progress. Sunday will be a "Judy Day". It's held at Quilt Country, where I took the Judy Niemeyer workshop. It's a chance to work on your JN quilt with others who took her classes.
I came across this on another blog and thought it was fun...

I'm finally back
and so is Bode! He has won the super-combi title and adds to his World Cup points total. Lindsey Vonn and Julia Mancuso continue to ski well. An exciting year for the American team.
I have returned to my sewing room after a major clean up over the Christmas holidays. There is a new Dear Jane block to add, but progress has been halted by the start of a quilt from Judy Niemeyer's Hawaiian Star pattern. I was lucky enough to take a three day workshop with her at Quilt Country in Lewisville.

Pitchers and Catchers report in 10 days - so Spring is almost here. With it the hope of another World Series win.
